What We Offer...
Our training is process oriented and our goal is to strengthen the connection between you and your dog. We believe in a balanced approach to dog training that is primarily reward-based but also uses a wide spectrum of dog training tools and behavioral approaches to help you reach your goals in a way that is fair to the dog.
We pride ourselves on “good dog training principles“ and apply the science of dog behavior to teach your dog instead of relying on speculative assumptions. We emphasize foundation and basic obedience no matter how complicated the behavioral issue. Your dog needs to be highly proficient at the basics before we can ask for more complicated behaviors.
A single lesson allows me to get to know you and your dog, develop a training plan and begin to get you the help you need and the information you want. We will also start tackling basic behavior issues. If you decide to commit to the Basic / Advanced Package, the cost of the introductory lesson can be applied to other packages!
This private lesson package is great for getting started on covering loose leash walking, sit, down, stay, proper greetings, marker training, and more. The focus is basic “on-leash“ obedience. This program is best suited for individuals with young dogs or recently adopted dogs who need help transitioning into a new home. This basic package will get you started on a life-long journey to enjoy a well-mannered companion.
The advanced training package is for tackling complex behavioral issues or teaching competitive sport work. Since the goals are greater, we need more time and therefore more lessons. We always begin each training program by starting off with the basics and/or picking up where you and your dog are to ensure that your dog is ready to move on to more advanced work. This advanced package may require professional grade remote collars, as well as the necessary training involved on how to properly use the tool. This package is ideal for folks who enjoy hiking and other off-leash adventures with their dogs! Off-leash is a privilege and your dog gets to have more freedom once you have a reliable and clear line of communication.
Nik received his formal training at The Michael Ellis School for Dog Trainers in California. He started training dogs at the age of 13 and apprenticed under a police K9 trainer in Mauritius and continues to attend seminars to further his education.
He currently teaches several classes at the Los Alamos Dog House where he helps dogs and their humans achieve their training goals. He particularly enjoys helping dedicated owners with rescue dogs that have behavioral challenges. Nik competes in dog sports and is often out hiking with dogs when not training!
